CV Tips

When writing a CV, put your aims and motivations at the beginning.

They should be able to see what you've done, but ensure that you say what you want to do now! And tell them why... Looking for a greater challenge? Need to expand your horizons? Want to put new skills to work? Want to make a logical move?

Keep CV information relevant. It's not the place for high humour, or flippancy, but do try to get your personality across.

Don't try to be over-clever in the presentation of your information. Keep your layout in a standard format.

Start with your most recent job and work backwards.

Very carefully check your spelling, punctuation, and grammar, even if someone else has written your CV.

Do try to get something of your personality into your CV. Employers need to be able to imagine someone they could work with.

Don't forget to include your personal contact details when submitting your CV.

When you have written a CV you want to submit, you can send it immediately, and results will start coming in to your desktop straight away.

When decision makers are looking at your CV, they are trying to discover what you can do for them, not what they can do for you... so don't make demands in your CV.

Including a picture of yourself can help you to get that job, because it creates rapport. If you do include a picture, ensure that it is an optimised gif or jpg file. It helps to speed up downloads for those looking at your CV.

When you send a CV, you also get the chance to upload a covering letter. This can help you to sell yourself, and target a particular market, so do take the opportunity. Recruitment companies will forward your covering letter with your CV.

Stay truthful, but don't be afraid to say your worth.

Don't mention the money on your CV. Your final interview is the time for that.

cv-submitSince I was made redundant at the TSB over eight months ago, I have been trying to get another job, but had no luck. Now I have three interviews lined up, and all within ten days of transmitting my CV using CV Submit Express. I will certainly recommend your service to a colleague who is in virtually the same position (after I get a job). Thank you kindly.
